The Company
President Engineering Group Ltd was formed in October 2010 when the Conflow and Bestobell Valves businesses were purchased by the local management team. These businesses consist of a manufacturing and distribution unit in Sheffield, a distribution unit in Pittsburgh (USA), and a manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad (India). Conflow is renowned the world over as the leading supplier of specialist components and systems for dust / fire suppression and all aspects of water control in underground coal mining.
The Challenge
President Engineering Group contacted Green Business Light seeking an energy efficient lighting solution to replace 128 twin 6 feet T8 fluorescent light fixtures located in their precision engineering site in Sheffield. The main requirements of the project were to:
- Have a new workshop lighting system with minimum maintenance;
- Obtain a high quality white light for the close visual inspection work taking place on the factory floor;
- Improve on the pre-existing lighting levels (approx 150 lux)
- Significantly reduce the business carbon footprint

"We were looking for an energy saving solution which would increase our working lux levels but also required minimal maintenance of the light fixtures. We had looked at LED lights but the cost was prohibitive - however, by working with Green Business Light we specified low energy induction light fittings for our site. The light quality has been significantly improved and the 80,000 hour lamp lifetime ensures we enjoy minimal maintenance costs for the long term."
