Low Bay Lighting Fixtures
Whether a high- or low-bay lighting fitting is needed depends on the type of space in a building that should be lit. Low bay lighting is suitable for illuminating small areas where the light fitting is to be position less than 6 metres from the floor, and are commonly found in buildings with small internal spaces that require standard or high illumination, such as workshops, industrial units, laboratories, small storage areas, supermarkets etc. Low bay light fittings provide the correct spread and diffusion of light when the light fixture is placed close to the area to be illuminated. This is often partly achieved using diffusers positions at the bottom of the lighting fixture.
If a high-bay light fitting is used in a place where a low-bay light fitting is more appropriate, the light cascading from the high-bay light fitting will be too focused & intense (glare) with over illumination of the areas.
Because low-bay fittings are less used in industrial locations, they are typically not as heavy-duty, or rugged as high-bay light fittings but nonetheless have protective covers to prevent damage.
Various low-bay lamp types are available including:
- LED Low Bay Lighting
- T5 Low Bay Fluorescent Lights
- T8 Low Bay Fluorescent Lights
- Low Bay Compact Fluorescent Lights
- Low Bay LED Retrofit Kits
